Pop-up shelter

This is one of the earliest competition entries that I submitted. It was the winning entry for the 2007 edition of the ‘P-spektakel’. This is a contest for first-year bachelor students at the architecture department at TU/e.

It is a cardboard emergency shelter, as basic and simple as possible. The shelter can protect one or several persons. It is cut from 9 square meters of cardboard with no waste material, held together by paper tape. In a matter of seconds it can be deployed, or folded into a flat package of 1 square meter. The package contains no excess space.

The materials are simple and so is the construction. It can be assembled from the raw materials in a matter of minutes, using only a cutting knife.
